Why is spyware a problem for
small and medium business?
Spyware
costs businesses money in lost productivity, reduced network
access, and increased help desk costs. Small and medium
businesses in particular are vulnerable to spyware attacks
because they have the following risk factors:
-
Dependent on Microsoft™ Windows™ desktop operating
system and Microsoft Internet Explorer software
-
Reliance upon the Internet, often via "always on"
cable or DSL network connection, increasing exposure to
spyware
-
Limited network security staff and other IT resources
-
Few, if any, policies to govern Internet use
- Inadequate
tools to help prevent spyware
The
rapid expansion of the mobile and at-home workforce exposes
more laptop PCs and other devices to threats outside the
corporate network. This provides a pathway for new and recurring
spyware payloads to infect business networks.
